‘Sweeney Todd’ production a cut above at Aurora theater

Excerpts from article originally published by Herb Hammer and the Chagrin Valley Today/Solon Times

“Aurora Community Theatre has taken up the challenge with an ambitious production and an astonishing amount talent…

The set at Aurora by Wes Shofner is a great contraption…

Director Claudia Lillibridge gives us one powerful scene after another, mixed in with a bushel of laughs.

In the title role, Thomas E. Love …impresses vocally as well as theatrically. He’s the perfect Sweeney Todd.

…Mike Rogan is an amazing surprise. His Judge Turpin is creepy yet interesting.

As Mrs. Lovett, Ann Nyenhuis gives a bright, elegant performance with a voice that can be silky yet sometimes brassy.

… Miss Lillibridge has assembled a first-rate cast of supporting characters along with a terrific chorus representing the London Underworld.

Others worth mention are Justin Roth, who sings the beautiful “Not While I’m Around.”  He is excellent…

Lovely Carolyn Voorhees is a gem as Johanna, while Andy Novak shines as her young sailor…

…The Aurora production is a fine stage experience.”
